Ricky Qaliby

I'm Ricky Qaliby. I am an artist with the soul of a wanderlust. My inspiration is the things I encounter in my journey. My passion is to translate the paradoxical spectrum of the world into my works.

Born in Binjai (Indonesia) January 8th, 1996. Qaliby conveyed the complexity of human life through his decorative abstract motives. Not a devout follower of a single genre, his pieces also dispatch figurative style, which he strongly considers to narrate what he creates. Those figurative shapes aspired by the creative process of his enthusiasm for the art of microscopic photography, especially in their patterns. Through his empirical observations, Qaliby perceives the patterns of life to be cyclical that is shared by the harmonious aesthetics of the universe. Another hallmark of Qaliby's paintings is their medium which is the acrylic board. The usage of this medium not only affects the result of his creative process but also reflects his identity. His abstract technique liberates his mind and emotions to express himself within his pieces. This also symbolize the synergy between himself and the universe.

My art follows the harmony within me. For me art is the fusion of colors and lines. The harmony and unfamiliarity things I found in my spiritual journey was my inspiration to become an artist. I explore every emotion I felt. From the process, I gain meanings beyond the profane, ultimately revealing transcendence which I painted in my works. My technique liberates my mind and emotions to express myself within my pieces. This also symbolizes the synergy between me and the universe. The canvas is a pulpit for conveying everything I contemplate. And for me, the selection of colour is not too important, because colours is like a moment in the world that will probably always be present without us realizing or knowing when it will arrive.
