Karte Wardaya is a hard working artist who has long track record in painting artwork. His skills has brought himself to be an illustrator from notable Indonesian publications such as Joko Lodhang as well as various painting exhibitions.
Born in Yogyakarta, on April 25th 1965. Karte is accustomed to painting since childhood. His love of painting became prominently apparent from his time in Sekolah Menengah Seni Rupa (SMSR) Yogyakarta. His agility in painting not only made it a hobby but also a lifeline from his juvenile years. His adept painting skills has brought himself to be an illustrator from notable Indonesian publications such as Joko Lodhang as well as various painting exhibitions. The hallmarks of his contemporary decorative pieces are the use of winged animals' figures such as birds, butterflies, and butterflies along with tree branches as backgrounds. His pieces reflect his journey and views of the world. With dominant birds’ figures, Karte conveys patience, resolve, and high spirit on overcoming ordeals of life.
With my own hard work from a young age, I was finally able to explore what I loved, namely painting. I think being a painting artist is the calling of the soul. Painting seems to me like a daily meal, because a day without painting feels like I haven't eaten. And painting is my best friend.
